About
Norwegian cross-country skier (Inderoy IL), and one of the most remarkable crossover stories in the sport's recent history: he began as a biathlete, winning gold (4x7.5km relay) and two silvers at the 2023 Biathlon Junior World Championships, before trying cross-country skiing and taking 2nd place in only his second-ever World Cup start (March 2025, Oslo). After winning the Norwegian Championships mass-start title in biathlon that same month he initially said he would stick with biathlon, but reversed course in November 2025 to commit fully to cross-country skiing ahead of the Olympics. The gamble paid off immediately: he won his first two individual World Cup cross-country races in December 2025 (10km freestyle, Trondheim and Davos) and a team sprint with Harald Ostberg Amundsen in January 2026, then won two Olympic gold medals at Milano Cortina 2026 (4x7.5km relay with Emil Iversen/Martin Lowstrom Nyenget/Johannes Hosflot Klaebo, and team sprint with Klaebo) plus an individual bronze in the 10km freestyle behind Klaebo -- his first defeat to Klaebo in that discipline after beating him twice on the World Cup.
A biathlete turned cross-country skier with six podiums and three wins from seven individual World Cup starts as of the 2025-26 season, and two Olympic gold medals in 2026, in the relay and the team sprint.
