About

Born in Edegem, Belgium but moved to Austria as a child. Made his World Cup debut on 18 November 2018 and has competed at three Olympics (2018, 2022, 2026) and three World Championships (2019, 2023, 2025) without a medal. Best World Cup result is 6th in giant slalom (27 January 2026, Schladming, and 24 March 2026, Lillehammer).

Equipment: Voelkl skis confirmed via FIS official athlete biography (manufacturer-updated field; boots/poles left blank by FIS). Maes's own official personal site (sammaes.com) additionally lists Dalbello, Lange, SHRED and Komperdell as equipment brands, but the page appears out of date (references his student years) and lists two competing boot brands (Dalbello and Lange), so boots are left blank pending stronger current confirmation; Komperdell (poles) and SHRED (goggles) are included since those are single, non-conflicting mentions. 8 World Cup seasons, 0 wins, 0 podiums through 2025-26 season (Wikipedia/FIS).
